A public informational meeting about the Mounds Project will be held May 13 in Dupo.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Sugarloaf Township Building at 240 S. 5th St. A presentation about the project will begin at 6:30 p.m. to discuss public support, community team players and review the report status.

HeartLands Conservancy has been gathering information and public input for a feasibility study to protect and preserve the prehistoric Mississippian mounds in the metro-east. The project: The Mounds -- America's First Cities -- is a study to determine whether a national level designation would help protect, educate, promote and preserve the mounds. It will also study what impact the mounds have on tourism and the local economy.
