Neighborhood Scout, an enterprise grade data analysis service, ranks East St Louis as the most dangerous city in the United States for 2012 based on reported FBI Index Crimes.
It reports 1,627 violent crimes and 2,176 property crimes for a total of 3,803 violent and property crimes, which is a rate of 140.71 crimes per 1,000 residents. The Metro East Police Commission can't get going fast enough and something has to change.
I could be cynical and say this is what 50-plus years of solid Democratic leadership gets you, but some people wouldn't believe me anyway.
Imagine if the city would spend $200,000 from its election commission to hire more police, buy some new police cars and update their crime statistics system. It has been said before, but it needs to be said again and again and again until the leadership of the city and St Clair County get it.
By the way, St Louis ranked eighth out of the 100 most dangerous. East St Louis ranked higher than Flint, Mich.; Camden, N.J., and even beleaguered Detroit. Swell.
