Fewer places to get a sub: Sandwich shops close metro-east stores

Quizno's has closed in Fairview Heights, and Subliminal Grilled Subs & More closed its O'Fallon store but plans to open elsewhere in the metro-east.

Subliminal Grilled Subs & More plans to relocate to Millstadt by this fall. The business left 729-C West U.S. 50 in O'Fallon after opening there two years ago. The sub sandwich shop was established 13 years ago in Waterloo and still operates at 141 S. Main St. in town. Another still in business opened last year at 904 Edwardsville Road in Troy. Additional locations are coming soon across the river in the Central West End and Westport Plaza.

The shuttered Quizno's location along Illinois 159 in Fairview Heights has a sign on its window urging customers to use the Shiloh location.

Quizno's left the Food Court at St. Clair Square more than two years ago, but still has a number of other metro-east locations in Belleville, Shiloh, Glen Carbon, Edwardsville, Granite City, Wood River, Highland and Columbia.

Gordon Food Service will open Sunday in Fairview Heights. The new bulk food delivery service and grocery store at 340 Market Place opens at noon. Call 293-6558 to find out more.

The former Associated Bank building in Fairview Heights is being renovated for a car lot. Kennedi Auto Sales will move to the new lot on the southwest corner of Union Hill and Lincoln Trail within the next three months. By that time, the new and used car dealer will leave its current lot down the street, at 1067 Lincoln Trail in Fairview Heights. The business also has lots in Belleville, Collinsville, Cahokia and Freeburg.

A Swansea commercial and residential cleaning service expanded. Christi's Housekeeping Services, in business for the past five years, now provides commercial cleaning during evenings and weekends. You can call them at 402-4802 and get a free estimate.

Quality Testing and Engineering Inc. in O'Fallon expanded its laboratory and testing services to include hot mix asphalt laboratory testing. The metro-east company is one of 17 in Illinois with these qualifications for hot mix asphalt and aggregate. QTE was founded in 2000.

And finally, J.T. McDermott Remodeling Contractors of Belleville earned the President's Award for its kitchen design and a first-place honor for an outdoor living space design by the Home Builders Association of the Greater Southwest Illinois. It was the 11th consecutive year the company has been recognized for excellence by the home builders organization. The home remodeling company was founded by company president Tim McDermott in 1993.
