Belleville West grad is OVC's Co-Baseball Player of the Week

Morehead State sophomore infielder Kane Sweeney, a Belleville West graduate from Millstadt, was named the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week on Monday.

Sweeney went 11-for-16 (.688) during the week with four RBIs and four runs scored. He was 3-for-3 with a walk at Marshall, then went 7-for-9 with two home runs and two doubles in two games at Austin Peay.

Sweeney is now leading the OVC in batting average and on-base percentage. He ranks 37th in the nation among Division I hitters with a .385 average and is tied for 36th in the nation with a .477 on-base percentage.

In 49 games, Sweeney has 72 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 24 RBIs. He has seen time at first, second and third base for the Eagles.

He has reached base in 40 straight games for the Eagles (15-34), failing to reach safely in only one game all season.
