I was surprised to discover in a letter April 28 that I'm apparently in a "gang." That's odd, since I've not met the other three folks mentioned, and probably the closest I've ever been to a gang was watching my kids perform in "West Side Story" years ago.
I guess I'm flattered to be mentioned in the company of those other unabashed liberal letter writers who call out the lies and question the motives of some conservative letter writers, those who offer nothing but bile and negativity. But there's certainly more than just a gang-of-four and my reality smells just fine.
Some people apparently think liberals are all programmed to think alike. I guess it's logical for conservatives to believe that, because they receive prepackaged pabulum from Fox News, a host of far-right talking heads and a continual barrage of hate-seeking-missiles from defenders of multinational corporations, organized wealth, various hate groups and supporters of the status quo.
There's a noisy, well-organized minority, comfortable enough in their situations, their wealth, or maybe just blinded by hatred, that they don't mind a continuing economic disaster, so long as it injures their opponents. They're happy to let America suffer in paralysis to prevent any success under this administration. It seems their main purpose is spreading disillusionment and cynicism, and letting their misguided followers carry their water.
So don't worry. We're not out tagging abandoned buildings or getting into any rumbles. But for those who dislike us for our liberal viewpoint: To paraphrase FDR, we welcome your contempt.
