I had to chuckle when I read the article in the BND about the sheriff of Cook County saying it will be "the wild West" if constitutional carry is allowed to happen on June 9.
Here is a guy who is already the sheriff of Dodge City (really it's Cook County, which is really Chicago and all of its murders) and he has the nerve to say he's worried about the crime rate if honest citizens get the right to carry open or concealed.
This guy must be living in a vacuum because I don't see how it could get any worse. Chicago's murder rate for 2013 is already ahead of last year's pace, which was a banner year by any statistic.
Of course we all know what this is about: As sheriff he gets the final say as to who gets a concealed carry license, and being an elected official that translates to money to line his pockets. If you contribute you get a license; if you don't, you won't. It's that simple.
I have said since Dec. 11, when the U.S. Court Of Appeals mandated Illinois join the ranks of the other 49 states and allow concealed carry, that I hoped that the same political impotence the state is known for would lead to no action --or if lawmakers did actually pass a bill, that our genius governor would veto it. Either way gets us to constitutional carry, which is the holy grail of gun owners.
