A Columbia, Mo., man was charged in connection with a robbery on a MetroLink train Tuesday in East St. Louis.

Imani I. Shakoor, 21, was charged with robbery. His bail was set at $200,000 and he is being held at the St. Clair County Jail in Belleville.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department was notified of a robbery reported on a MetroLink train.

A victim told Patrol Sgt. William Kenny that she boarded the red line eastbound train at the Forest Park Metro Station, and then she began using her iPhone to send text messages. When the train entered the East Riverfront Metro Station, the suspect grabbed the victim's phone from her hand and exited the train, according to a news release from St. Clair County Sheriff Richard Watson.

The victim followed the suspect, grabbed him by his hair and told him to give back the phone. The suspect stepped on the victim's toe and fled down a set of stairs.

Shakoor was seen running into the front entrance of the Casino Queen. He was detained by security officers until being turned over to deputies, according to Watson.

Shakoor also has active bench warrants from St. Clair County.
