GOP is the real problem

May 11, 2013

Uninformed people who refer to President Obama as a big government-spending socialist or communist are the very same people who gave us the biggest expansion of government since the 1940s.

During George W. Bush's two terms, government spending increased 7.3 percent and 8.1 percent. During President Obama's term it increased 1.4 percent.

Government employment increased 8.3 percent under Bush and declined 3.1 percent under Obama. Bush added 900,000 government jobs during his first term. So, who is the communist?

Tax havens and loopholes are Republican spending of revenue that would reduce our deficitit and national debt. They insist on protecting loopholes for defense contractors, who defraud us with cost overruns, and American oil companies, that raise our gas prices while exporting our fuel to the higgest bidder overseas.

Last year, Facebook profited $1.1 billion, paid no income tax and received a $429 million tax refund. In 2010, GE profited $5.1 billion, paid no income tax and received a $3.2 billion tax refund. GE is now holding $108 billion in profits overseas to avoid U.S. taxes.

This contemptible fraud is protected by bought-and-paid-for congressional Republicans.

The rich received huge tax cuts in 2001 and 2003. Tax revenue fell from 19.5 percent of GDP in 2001 to 15.1 percent in 2009. Welcome to conservative fantasy land.

Corporate welfare costs us more than $100 billion a year. Tax havens costs us trillions. How about drug testing the CEOs of these corporations?
