A Caseyville police officer remains hospitalized Tuesday at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Officer Steve Epps was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident Saturday near Mascoutah, according to Caseyville Officer Gerard Spratt.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital spokeswoman Becky Cowin said Epps was listed in serious condition Tuesday night.

Spratt said Epps "sustained some pretty significant injuries" in the motorcycle crash. Epps was off-duty at the time.

"Everybody is pulling for him and hoping he makes a full recovery," Spratt said.

Epps is currently on paid sick leave, according to Caseyville's Acting Police Chief Frank Moore. Moore said Epps sustained injuries to his chest, back and one leg but is "expected to recover."

Illinois State Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
