Worker suffers 'crushing injury' at Sauget job site

A worker who suffered a "crushing injury to the chest" Tuesday night on the job at Stellar Manufacturing in Sauget is in good condition.

According to police reports, call came for emergency assistance at about 10 p.m. When help arrived, the worker was conscious and able to talk to paramedics.

Chief Operating Officer Jerry Lewinski said the employee was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Lewinski said the man suffered two broken ribs and a laceration to his head.

Lewinski said the man is expected to be released from the hospital in a couple days. For privacy reasons, the company is not releasing the injured employee's name.
