A suspect has been hospitalized after he jumped off an on-ramp to the Poplar Street Bridge.

According to police reports, the man fled police who were conducting a sweep for illegal drugs and guns and fugitives Wednesday in Cahokia. When officers attempted to pull the man over, he led them on a high speed chase toward St. Louis.

The suspect crashed his car on the on-ramp, then got out and attempted to flee on foot. He leapt over the guard rail as he tried to escape and fell nearly 100 feet.

No word was available about the suspect's identity or his condition. Police said he survived the initial fall and tried to hide after he landed, but was apprehended.
