IEPA to clean up dump in Washington Park

The state soon will clean up a dump site in Washington Park filled with demolition debris, tires, furniture, glass and other household items, according to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

The agency plans this week to tackle the site at the 5600 block of Caseyville Avenue, which has been the target of illegal dumping, Agency Director Lisa Bonnett announced in a statement.

The cleanup is expected to cost between $30,000 and $40,000, which will be paid for through existing landfill fees.

"This cleanup will help thousands of people who reside or drive by this illegal dump site," Bonnett said. "By working with our local government partners, we can help communities remove these eyesores and return them to productive use, which improves everyone's quality of life."
