— A former Boy Scout volunteer and suspended Scott Air Force Base civilian employee entered the Menard Correctional Center on Thursday to begin serving six years for sexually molesting male children in his family.

Jon L. Demers, 55, who is also a former Air Force lieutenant colonel, was found guilty March 14 on all 12 counts of criminal sexual abuse of a child after a jury trial in St. Clair County Circuit Court. His projected parole date is March 15, 2019.

During the trial, a statement that Demers made to police was read into testimony. It stated in part that he admitted masturbating juvenile male relatives. He did not testify at his trial.

A teenage male relative testified against him.

Because of the convictions, Demers is a registered sex offender.

Demers, who resided in the portion of Collinsville that lies within St. Clair County, was suspended from his job at Scott after his supervisors learned of the felony charges involving children who are now between 11-17 years old.
