Don't make sick people suffer

May 21, 2013

I don't smoke marijuana and have only tried it a couple times in my 61 years on this earth. But I do have a lot of friends who smoke it and have been smoking it for many years for enjoyment. They all seem to have normal lives and hold down good jobs. I also have friends and family who have smoked marijuana to get through the chemo therapy they have undergone for cancer and other diseases. Marijuana helped them survive the chemo.

It seems that other states have medical marijuana laws that allow people to obtain it for everything from headaches to back aches. Illinois' proposed law seems to address this problem in allowing medical marijuana only for serious illnesses and diseases. I am all for it.

I don't believe people should have to suffer needlessly trying to overcome a serious illness or disease if there is something that may ease their pain and allow them to eat while they are going through chemo.
