Former O'Fallon High and Southwestern Illinois College standout Kyle Stanton, now a senior first baseman at Illinois State University, was a first-team selection on the All-Missouri Valley Conference baseball team released this week.
Still competing for the MVC conference tournament championship with ISU (38-18), Stanton was hitting .356 through 56 games with 19 doubles, three homers and 41 RBIs.
Former Greenville High standout Todd Eaton, a junior pitcher at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, made second-team all-MVC.
Missouri State freshman outfielder Tate Matheny, son of St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, was named MVC Freshman of the Year.
* Morehead State sophomore Kane Sweeney (Belleville West) and SIU Edwardsville junior pitcher Travis Felax (Triad) each were second team selections on the Ohio Valley Conference's All-Conference Baseball Team.
Sweeney led Morehead State (16-40) in hitting at .376 in 53 games with 13 doubles, four homers and 28 RBIs and had a .513 slugging percentage.
Sweeney had starts at five different positions this season and reached base in 51 of 53 games, at one point putting together a streak of reaching safely in 41 straight games.
"I'm very happy for Kane, and he is certainly deserving of the honor," Morehead State coach Mike McGuire said of the Millstadt resident. "He played all over the place for us, stepping in wherever we needed him on any given day and was our most consistent hitter all season."
Felax was 3-6 for the Cougars with a 2.26 ERA., four complete games and one shutout, striking out 58 in 75 2/3 innings. Felax's ERA was the second best in the OVC and he walked only six hitters all season.
* Former O'Fallon High pitching star Jon Levin has developed into the top left-handed reliever for St. Louis University. The Billikens (38-19) are the top seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament being played this week.
The senior is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and two saves in 25 appearances.
