USAC Silver Crown event will be held at Gateway on June 1

The raceway at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison returns to the spotlight June 1 when the track hosts the Gateway 100 as part of the United States Auto Club (USAC) Silver Crown series.

This will be the first time since 2010 that racing will be held on the track's 1.25-mile oval raceway and the sixth time the track has hosted a USAC event. The last race there was a NASCAR Nationwide series event won by Brad Keselowski.

The race is the fourth round of the TRAXXAS USAC Silver Cross Series and follows the May 18 Hall of Fame Classic in Indianapolis.

"The Silver Crown series has a tremendous tradition in this region and we're extremely excited to have them re-open the Superspeedway in this historic event," said Chris Blair, Gateway Motorsports Park Senior Vice-President, said in a news release. "The stars of USAC produced some incredible events here between 1997 and 2001 that were some of the most talked about in the long history of this incredible series."

The event is part of a weekend of racing in the metro-east that includes the USAC National Midget Series "Hut 100" event on May 31 at nearby Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach.

"Gateway is truly a driver's track and this series is known for producing the stars of tomorrow," Blair said. "Thanks to USAC and TRAXXAS, the excitement is building and the series is growing. This event could go down in the books as one of the greatest in the long history of asphalt champ car racing."

Advance tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for children 6-12. They can be purchased by calling 618-215-8888 or visiting
