Special to the News-DemocratMay 24, 2013

The Gateway Grizzlies set a season high for runs with an 8-1 win against the Joliet Slammers Thursday night at GCS Ballpark in Sauget.

The victory moves the Grizzlies to 4-2, and secured their second straight series win.

Right-hander Chris Enourato (1-0) went seven scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, a walk, and struck out five Slammers on 90 pitches.

Grizzlies first baseman Jon Myers hit one of three Gateway homers. His solo home run in the first put Gateway up 1-0. Myers, second baseman Jonathan Johnson, third baseman Chris McClendon and catcher Michael Pair all had two hits nights.

Thursday was the first start of Pair's Grizzlies' career. He homered on the second pitch he saw to make the lead 2-0. The home run was a part of a three-run third for the Grizzlies. McClendon and left fielder Jose Flores also had RBIs during the inning as well.

Joliet ace Evan Anundsen (1-1) took the loss. He gave up five runs on seven hits, and was removed after four innings.

Gateway opens a three game series at GCS Ballpark against the Schaumburg Boomers at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
