East St. Louis police are investigating the death of a teenager who they believe may have been murdered late Thursday night during a pick-up basketball game.

The victim's body was found near A.M. Jackson Elementary School at the corner of 18th and Summit streets, according to police reports.

At just after 1 a.m., a St. Clair County Sheriff's Department deputy called for back-up over his radio saying that he spotted a subject with a gun between buildings near the intersection of State and 18th streets less than a mile away from where the teen's body was found.

The man initially refused to follow police orders to get down on the ground. But he was eventually taken into custody, according to police reports. There was no word if he is believed to have been involved in the teen's death.
