Jay Haas three strokes back at Senior PGA Championship

— Kiyoshi Murota of Japan made two birdies in his first eight holes to take the lead midway through the second round of the Senior PGA Championship on Friday at Bellerive Country Club.

Belleville native Jay Haas, tied for the lead after shooting a 66 on Thursday, is 2-over-par through eight holes on Friday and is three strokes out of the lead at 3-under par.

A 57-year-old native of Saitama and three-time winner of the Japan Senior PGA Championship, Murota started the day 4-under par. But beginning his round on the back 9, Murota made birdies on holes 11 and 16 to move to 6-under par.

Kenny Perry is 3-under par for the day though seven holes and one stroke back at 5-under for the tournament.

Starting on the back nine and one stroke up after making a birdie on No. 14, Haas made double bogey on No. 16 and a bogey on 17 to fall into a five-way tie for fifth place.

Co-first round leader Duffy Waldorf shot 72 on Friday and is currently tied with Russ Cochran for third place at 4-under par.
