TEUTOPOLIS — Paige Rakers used her arm and her bat to lead the Carlyle Indians to a 3-1 semifinal victory over the Shelbyville Rams at the Class 2A Teutopolis Softball Sectional.
The Rams were ranked 10th among Class 2A teams by Illinois Coaches Association.
Rakers had a two-run triple to key a three-run, first-inning rally by the Indians.
Rakers' triple was the only hit allowed by Shelbyville pitcher Grace Moll.
On the mound, Rakers surrendered five hits and one unearned run. She struck out seven and walked two.
The Indians (16-1) advance to play the host Wooden Shoes (19-5) at 10 a.m. today in the championship game of the Teutopolis Sectional.
Okawville 2, Wayne City 0
Okawville pitcher Jolyn Lake threw a four-hit shutout as the Rockets blanked the Wayne City Indians in a semifinal of the Class 1A Odin Sectional.
Lake struck out five and walked one.
The Rockets scored both of their runs in the top of the seventh inning off RBI singles by Madalyn Fuhrhop and Jolyn Lake.
Kaylyn Fuhrhop and Megan Wienstroer each had a pair of hits for the Rockets, who collected six hits in the game.
The Rockets (18-10) will play Altamont Indians (19-3) at 11 a.m. Saturday in the championship game of the Odin Sectional.
Okawville is ranked 12th in Class 1A, while Altamont is ranked seventh.
