June 6, 2013

The City of O’Fallon, the Village of Shiloh, and the O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee will host the 19th Annual Salute to Scott AFB from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday June 8, 2013 at the O’Fallon Community Park (308 E. Fifth Street).

The goal of this event is to show appreciation for Scott Air Force Base personnel and their families and to continue to strengthen that relationship.

Free hot dogs, chips, and soda will be served 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Various area restaurants will also provide samples and coupons throughout the day. The O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Business Expo from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The expo features displays from more than 40 local businesses. These businesses, as well as all of O’Fallon-Shiloh, are happy to show their appreciation for those "who serve."

There are many family activities planned. OTHS Band Boosters are sponsoring a "Bands on the Run" 5K starting at 7:30 a.m. Details can be found at www.GetMeRegistered.com/othsband5K. There will be pony rides, rock climbing wall, inflated jumping balloons, fireman’s pole, and antique fire engine rides. Also included in the day's events will be vintage base ball as played by the rules of 1860. Matches will be played at approximately 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. between the Belleville Stags, St. Louis Perfectos and Springfield Long Nine.

Skyline Community Church band will provide musical entertainment at 12:30 p.m. The highlight of the day will be the making of the largest banana split in the area. Be ready to dive in and enjoy this special treat around 2 p.m.!

Make sure you stop by the information booth any time from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and register for attendance prizes. Attendance prizes for both adults and children will be awarded throughout the day. The children’s bikes will be awarded at 2:15 p.m. You must be present to win the bikes.

There will be a free family swim for those attending. A limited number of arm bands will be available at the information booth.

If you’re associated with Scott Air Force Base or are an O’Fallon-Shiloh resident who directly supports the base, please bring your family and join us for free food, drinks, and activities! It will be a day to remember!
