A sexual predator has been charged by the St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office with being a child sex offender in a public park.

According to police reports, Joseph P. Knyff, 41 of 140 Racehorse Lane in Alorton, was hanging out in the Millstadt Public Park at about 7:10 a.m. May 25. He was allegedly near the volleyball courts which are located across the street from the Millstadt Primary Center where kindergartners through third graders go to school. School was dismissed for the summer, however, on May 24.

Knyff was charged by the State's Attorney's Office Tuesday and he was arrested by Alton Police Thursday. His bond was set at $5,000.

He was charged in January 2012 with aggravated criminal sexual assault in Belleville of a child who was less than two years old at the time of the attack. As a result of his conviction, Knyff was placed on probation and was forced to register for the Illinois Sex Offender Database.
