Several state playoff changes for area high schools

News-DemocratJune 11, 2013

The Illinois High School Association released its new state playoff classifications Tuesday for the 2013-14 school year and among the biggest changes in the metro-east is East St. Louis going back to Class 4A in boys and girls basketball.

East St. Louis had dropped to Class 3A in boys and girls basketball in recent years, but now will join the rest of the Southwestern Conference in Class 4A.

In other changes for metro-east schools, Gibault will move from Class 1A to Class 2A in baseball after winning the 1A state championship earlier this month.

Freeburg dropped from 3A to 2A in baseball and softball.
