Where's the justice?

June 11, 2013

On April 9 I volunteered to poll watch at the Hollywood Heights Fire Department. I witnessed numerous election violations that include alcohol being available for no cost, sample ballots being distributed and Caseyville Township Trustee Rick Donovan polliticking 50 feet from the polling place door. I was further subjected to intimidation and harassment by a woman who claimed to be the friend of former Caseyville Police Chief J.D. Roth.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department and members of the state's attorney's office were called numerous times. They both ignored several clear violations of election law.

Even though I signed a complaint, the woman who attempted to intimidate me as an election official has yet to be charged with a crime of any kind.

I clearly understand now why the good people of East St. Louis have given up trying to reform a corrupt process. You can complain all you want, but no will do a thing to stop this illegal conduct.

All I can tell State's Attorney Brendan Kelly is that next election I won't bother trying to call his office to have the law enforced, I will bring my own posse. We will see how they conduct themselves then.
