Cubs DFA former Cardinals pitcher Eduardo Sanchez

Former Cardinals reliever Eduardo Sanchez has been designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs.

Sanchez, who was picked up by Chicago off waivers last month, pitched six times for the Wee Bears' Class AAA affiliate in Iowa. There he was 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA in 7 1/3 innings of work. He gave up 10 hits and walked seven batters while also striking out seven.

The right hander made his debut in the Cardinals farm system at 17 years old and in parts of eight years in the minor leagues Sanchez is 14-12 with a 3.61 ERA. He has allowed 232 hits in 289 innings pitched and has struck out 308 batters in 137 innings.

Sanchez is 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA in the major leagues. He's struck out 48 while walking 29.
