East St. Louis man gets nearly five years for dealing crack

An East St. Louis man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for selling crack cocaine.

Joshwa Givens, 28, got 57 months after he pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of crack with intent to distribute and one count of possession.

According to U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, Givens admitted to possessing crack cocaine with intent to distribute it in St. Clair County on Aug. 7, 2011, and March 16, 2012, and in Madison County on Jan. 2, 2012.

Police seized a total of 22 grams of crack cocaine from Givens, along with $2,579 in cash which Givens admitted came from the sale of crack cocaine. Givens was on state probation for two separate crack cocaine felony convictions when he was arrested on the federal charges.
