Edison's Entertainment Complex specializes in fun for kids with its Edwardsville arcade, bowling lanes, laser tag and party rooms.
But after a year of business, the staff is trying to spread the word that the restaurant is a great place for adults to enjoy a meal.
"A lot of people feel like they have to have kids or grandkids to come here, and that's not true," said marketing manager Tom Rezabeck, 38, of Glen Carbon. "Our tagline was 'Genius Level Fun.' We just updated it to say, 'Genius Level Fun for Everyone.'
"It's just as much fun if you're a senior citizen or a young professional couple. You can come for a very affordable date night, or it can be a great place to meet friends for a drink."
The restaurant's theme is "Inventive Eats and Drinks," featuring appetizers, soups, salads, pizza, sandwiches, entrees, vegetarian options and a kids menu.
"You can invent your own burger or chicken sandwich (for $7.95)," said food and beverage director Randy Williams, 37, of St. Charles, Mo.
"It automatically comes with a choice of bread and two toppings. We have 23 to choose from, and you also get a side. That's very popular."
Entrees range from Fish Tacos to Pork Kabobs, Beef Tenderloin to Portabella Mushroom Meatloaf.
Prime Rib is served on Friday nights ($10.95 or $13.95). Weekday lunch specials are available for $6.99.
"Everything is fresh," said Edison's co-owner Matt McSparin, who manages the complex with co-owner Terry Rujawitz. "And the presentation is great."
The Turkey and Brie Ciabatta is Matt's favorite. It's topped with caramelized onions and fig preserves.
Next on his list is the Egglectric Club, which is turkey, ham, pecan-wood bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado and mayo with a fried egg on top.
"The onion rings are dangerous," said Matt, 50, of Edwardsville. "If you put an order in front of me, I'm going to eat the whole basket."
Today, the restaurant is celebrating Father's Day with a barbecue and half-price appetizers. Dads get an hour of free bowling, unlimited laser tag and a 25-point card for arcade games.
The restaurant has a full bar, everything from beer and wine to flavored martinis such as triple chocolate truffle and nuts and berries. Martinis range from $4 to $7.
The restaurant's contemporary decor includes 25-foot-high ceilings, exposed ductwork, bold color combinations, pendulum lighting, wood floors and regular and high-top tables and booths.
A circular alcove is furnished with leather chairs, a coffee table, gas fireplace and flat-screen TV.
"This is a popular area for friends who want to watch a big game together," Tom said. "It's like being at home in your living room with more space to entertain."
Outside, a large patio can seat 30 people at wrought-iron tables with umbrellas around a massive stone fireplace.
The restaurant can accommodate large groups and offers packages for corporate and organization events.
"We can provide meeting space, a quality meal and entertainment for a price that's comparable with what a hotel might charge for just a meeting place and a meal," Matt said.
