— The director of community programs for the East St. Louis Police Department will lead the 2013 fundraising drive for the Illinois Division of the United Way Greater St. Louis.

Francella Jackson, a longtime supporter, board member and volunteer with the organization, was named fundraising campaign chair for the Illinois Division, which covers Clinton, Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair counties.

The Illinois Division's annual fundraising campaign, which supports nearly 30 local health and human service organizations, officially begins in September.

"I am greatly impressed by the generosity of this community each year and by the accountability that United Way provides to its supporters and member agencies," Jackson said.

"I strongly believe in United Way's mission. And, being involved in United Way's campaign is very important to me and the entire campaign team because we are not only raising funds, but we are creating an awareness of our programs and services as well as those of our partner agencies," Jackson said.

"Most importantly, we are helping people by impacting lives across the region," she said.

"One in three people in our community receive services that strengthen families and make this community a better place to live," Jackson said.

Jackson has served in many roles with United Way of Greater St. Louis and its Illinois Division throughout the years, including being a member of the African American Leadership Charmaine Chatman Society since 2001 and a cabinet member since 2006. Jackson has been a volunteer leader in the Community Investment Division, serving as chair and vice chair of several panels since 1998. Additionally, she has been an Illinois Division campaign cabinet member for 10 years and has served on the Illinois Division auxiliary board since 2003 and its executive committee since 2005.

Jackson has been a member of United Way Greater St. Louis board since 2008 and has served as co-chair of the Initiative Committee and a member of the 2-1-1 Committee (an information and referral hot line).

Missy Endres, vice president of the Illinois Division of United Way Greater St. Louis said, "When it comes to having great leadership and enthusiasm for helping people in this community Francella is the perfect example."

Endres also said Jackson is dedicated "and her energetic drive makes her an outstanding choice for this year's campaign chair."

"She is an incredible volunteer with United Way and I am looking forward to working closely with her," Endres said.

In 2012, the Illinois Division campaign was chaired by Mike Marshal, president of Holland Construction Services in Swansea. Approximately $1.6 million was raised during Marshal's chair. Regionally, the United Way of Greater St. Louis raised more than $72 million.

Ron Fromm, chairman of the board of Brown Shoe Co., and his wife, Cheri, will serve as the overall co-chairs of the 2013 United Way of Greater St. Louis campaign.
