Maryville man charged with using stun gun in attempted rape

— A Maryville man is accused of breaking into a female acquaintance's house, using a stun gun on her and trying to rape her.

According to prosecutors, John P. Hawkins, 58, broke into a Maryville woman's home June 7 and used a stun gun on the woman, with whom he was acquainted. After using the stun gun on her, he allegedly ripped open her shirt in an attempt to force her into sex.

Hawkins has been charged with three counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and attempted aggravated sexual abuse.

Charges were filed June 11.
