— Mayor Len Black said Friday that he plans to appoint Collinsville Police Department Lt. Todd Link as the village's next permanent police chief.

Black said Link would be appointed at the July Village Board meeting and that he'd take over as the new leader of the police department sometime in September.

"We're very, very happy with him," Black said of Link. "He's very well educated and an instructor and Lindenwood University. He has a really calm personality and he has a plan, which is something that our police department really needs."

Black said Caseyville's Police Department has been fractured by the controversy surrounding former chief J.D. Roth who was suspended and facing criminal charges in relation to misappropriating village property. Roth committed suicide last week at his home in Fairview Heights. Black thinks Link is the chief to bring the police department back together.

Link could not be reached for comment Friday.

Black said he got letters of recommendation for Link from both St. Clair County Sheriff Rick Watson and Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz.
