Belleville Police on Saturday were investigating the death of an infant.
The child, whose identity was not released by authorities, died Saturday morning.
An autopsy of the baby's body was been scheduled for 8 a.m. Sunday, according to Brendan Kelly, the state's attorney for St. Clair County.
"The investigation is still ongoing and there are no charges at this minute," Kelly said late Saturday afternoon. No one was in police custody, he said.
Prosecutors from the Children's Justice Division have been assigned to work the case, he said.
Belleville Police Capt. John Moody said police responded about 8:30 a.m. to a home in the 1600 block of LaSalle Street after receiving a report that a child was unresponsive.
Emergency medical crews arrived and took the child to a hospital, where the child was pronounced dead. The child was 3 months old, according to police.
"Circumstances surrounding the infant's death are still being investigated," Moody said.
