Give Delaney benefit of doubt

June 22, 2013

First off, let me confess that I know former St. Clair County Clerk Bob Delaney on a casual basis. We are however about as far apart politically as two people can get and this is not a letter in his defense because I do not know what did or did not take place in the clerk's office.

It just seems kind of strange that Delaney is being thrown under the bus by his party when there is another case that has abruptly moved to the back burner that in my humble opinion is pretty darn important. Ever hear of the drug problems at the very same courthouse?

Also, I thought in America that a person is innocent until proven guilty. Seems like the two BND reporters writing about Delaney have already convicted him on nothing more than allegations. What about the harm being done to Delaney's family by this kind of reporting?

The Democrats are very artful at throwing a lesser official under the bus to ease the heat on the higher ups in their party. Case in point is Hillary Clinton and all the scandals she skated through by simply saying she could not recall where she was, what she did, what she said or who was there.

As Delaney asked, "If this was a pattern of my behavior, then why did it take 34 years to surface?"
