Illinois 3 corridor is making an impact

The businesses that dot the 60-mile-long Illinois 3 corridor -- mainly in Alton, Granite City, Sauget, East St. Louis and Wood River -- generates more than $20 million a year for the metro-east economy and provide more than 215,000 jobs paying $9.2 billion in payroll.

Here's a break down of those businesses:

*1,380 business with at least 10 employees have a combined annual revenue of $6.3 billion and employ a total workforce of 75,000 with an annual payroll of $3.3 billion.

* 73 transportation industry businesses with 10 or more employees account for approximately $350 million in annual revenue that provide 4,400 jobs with almost $200 million in annual wages.

*95 businesses within the manufacturing industry account for approximately $1 billion in annual revenue and provide 9,000 jobs with $400 million in annual wages.

*65 wholesale trade industry businesses account for approximately $500 million in annual revenue and providing 5,000 jobs with more than $200 million in annual wages.
