Severe thunderstorms roll through region

News-DemocratJune 26, 2013

Severe thunderstorms arrived in the St. Louis area Wednesday just in time for the morning rush hour.

According to the National Weather Service, the storms are packing damaging winds and hail. But the roughest weather is expected to pass through the metro-east by 10 a.m.

After that, there is a 30 percent chance for thunderstorms throughout the daytime hours.

The rough weather has taken the edge off the high temperatures that were expected Wednesday. Earlier this week it was predicted that the temperature would hit 96 degrees. That forecast has been scaled back to a high of 91 degrees.

The chance of thunderstorms will decrease to 20 percent by Wednesday evening. Sunny skies and a high of 91 degrees are expected Thursday during the daytime hours. There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms in the forecast for Thursday evening.
