How would United Healthcare's termination with Memorial affect me?

News-DemocratJune 27, 2013

Clients carrying United Healthcare health insurance are on course to losing Memorial Hospital in Belleville from United Healthcare's network.

Unless a new contract can be reached, those customers will have limited access to the Belleville hospital, depending on the type of plan patients have. Some plans cover out-of-network access, but others will require paying more for care from the hospital and Memorial Medical Group providers.

Patients with United Healthcare coverage who are currently in the hospital, undergoing active treatment for an acute or chronic condition or women who are in their third trimester will continue to receive service under their insurance for a limited time.

Memorial Hospital Chief Financial Officer Joe Lanius said primary care doctors and specialists, but not pediatricians, are included in the network contract that is about to expire.

Memorial Hospital's website includes further information about what changes would come if the two sides fail to reach an agreement. The web page has a list of 64 physicians who would be left out of the network and when that would happen. The list includes cardiologists, neurologists, urologists and gynecologists.
