Breese brewer expanding sales to St. Louis

Excel Bottling Co. in Breese will begin distributing its craft beer in Missouri next month.

Excel reached an agreement with Missouri Beverage Co. to distribute the metro-east company's brew throughout St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Excel began brewing beer in October. Initial distributions across the river will include Shoal Creek, Wheat Excel Citra and Eastside IPA.

Excel is known as the bottler of Ski and makers of an assortment of other sugar cane-flavored soft drinks. The company began bottling and manufacturing soda in 1936.

A Belleville eatery purchased a former restaurant building in Swansea and could open a second locale there. According to the Swansea Building and Zoning Department, the West Main Cafe at 1601 W. Main St. in Belleville purchased the building at 1500 N. Illinois St. in Swansea. The new location was the home of Dairy Queen, which closed in 2008. The owners from West Main Cafe and its investors are currently renovating the Swansea building and have not decided what they will do with the building. You can call the West End Cafe at 355-9181.

Tom and Dede Cordie are ready to retire and sell White Cottage. The couple sold the Belleville ice cream stand at 102 Lebanon Ave. and eatery before, only to buy it back. They operated the business for 23 years until selling it in 2001. The couple repurchased and reopened White Cottage in October 2008. The Cordies plan to reopen again next season if there is no buyer this year. White Cottage has been serving ice cream in Belleville's Lebanon Avenue neighborhood for the past 60 years. And finally, Raging Rivers WaterPark is honoring active military with free use of the water park this week. Beginning today and through Saturday, the water park at 100 Palisades Parkway off the Great River Road in Grafton will provide free admision to all active military with valid active military ID. Immediate family will receive reduced admission of $12 plus tax per person. Regular admission price is $18.95 for children shorter than 48-inches tall and senior citizens 60 and older, $21.95 for adults taller than 48 inches and free for children younger than 2.
