(*0*)GCS Credit Union hired Matthew Parrott as a consumer loan underwriter. Parrott was an assistant branch manager for eight years at PNC Bank and also served as an volunteer firefighter for the village of Marine.

Kimberly Howell is a new client services coordinator for Barber Voss Homecare in Belleville. Howell has 10 years of experience in the health care industry. She is an Alzheimer's Foundation of America and qualified dimentia care specialist. Barber Voss serves clients in St. Clair, Madison and Monroe counties.

Barb Hohlt, director of Environmental Health Services for the St. Clair County Health Department, was presented the Distinguished Service Award for her service to public health by the Illinois Public Health Association. She's been with the St. Clair County Health Department for 27 years.

Patricia Kievlan was appointed associate judge for the 20th Judicial Circuit of Illinois. Kievlan was a member of the Belleville law firm Pessin, Baird & Wells for 18 years prior to her appointment.

Laura Beasley, a partner of Joley, Nussbaumer, Oliver, Dickerson & Beasley PC in Belleville, was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel.

Troy Bozarth, of HeplerBroom LLC in Edwardsville, was installed as first vice president of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel.

Mandi K. Ferguson, of HeplerBroom LLC in Edwardsville, was awarded the 2013 Rising Star Award from the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel.

Belleville resident William Meister, of WPGU-FM at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, was presented the third place award for the Small Market Radio's Best Radio Station by the Illinois Broadcasting Association.

Belleville tax and business attorney George E. Marifian recently traveled to Washington, D.C., on behalf of the Illinois State Bar Association's Federal Taxation Section Council to present the Council's 2013 legislative recommendations to the staffs of the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways and Means Committee and to the staff of select members of the Illinois Congressional delegation.

The News-Democrat announced new appointments. Gerie Simpson was promoted to human resources director at the News-Democrat. Simpson has been with the newspaper 25 years. News-Democrat Finance Director Stacy Richardson also is now in charge of the newspaper's building and maintenance responsibilities. John Grove has been named Vice President of Audience and Operations at the News-Democrat. Jeanne Newton stepped down as News-Democrat Vice President of Human Resources/Marketing. Newton spent the past 29 years with the newspaper.
