A Highland man is accused of shooting another man Friday in Highland.

Police responded to a call of shot fired Friday in the 1500 block of Broadway and learned the victim, a 36-year-old man, already headed to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment.

Brett R. Higgins, 27, turned himself into the Highland police shortly after the shooting and remained in custody at the Madison County Jail over the weekend.

The Madison County State's Attorney on Monday charged Higgins with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

The victim, whose name has not been released by police, was transferred to a St. Louis hospital and treated for two gunshot wounds to the lower body, according to Highland Police Detective Scott Athmer. The victim was released from the hospital Saturday.
