Man accused of having sex with teen at Fairview Heights motel

A Georgia man has been charged in connection with sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in Fairview Heights.

Maurice Jackson, 20, of 315 Stapleton Highway in Wrens, Ga., was charged by the St. Clair County State's Attorney with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The crime, classified as a class 2 felony, allegedly occurred at the Trailways Motel at 10039 Lincoln Trail Thursday according to the investigation by the Fairview Heights Police Department. According to the police report, the parents of the 15-year-old victim were concerned when they could not find her Wednesday evening. She came home after 1 a.m. Thursday and when questioned about where she had been by her parents, her parents learned she had been at the motel with Jackson. Further investigation discovered the 15-year-old had sexual contact with the man who had been staying at the motel, according to Fairview Police Lt. Steve Evans.

Police began investigating the crime around 4 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived at the motel they learned Jackson was registered there but not in his room. Police set up surveillance and waited for him to return and by 6:15 a.m. Jackson was in custody.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Jackson's bond was set at $75,000.
