Rain and a high temperature in the low 70s Tuesday

Rain may slow down the morning commute Tuesday as a mass of showers has settled over the St. Louis metropolitan area and appears to be likely to stick around for awhile.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 60 percent chance that the showers could escalate to a thunderstorm before 3 p.m. The high temperature will be held down by the rain, reaching only 72.

The rain could continue into the evening hours with a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms and showers until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

There is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms during the daytime hours Wednesday with a high of 77. Skies should clear during the evening hours and sunshine is expected on the Fourth of July with a high temperature of 84.
