Man killed in car, employee shot at beauty supply shop in East St. Louis

— Two shootings Monday night resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man who had been sitting in his car and left a beauty shop employee wounded.

At 9:52 p.m. Monday, George Tolliver Jr. was sitting in his maroon Ford Explorer in front of 808 N. 86th St. Witnesses said a suspect walked up to the car and shot into it, hitting Tolliver once and killing him, Police Chief Michael Floore said.

Tolliver lived at 7749 Marybelle St. in East St. Louis and was pronounced dead at the scene, St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone said.

The Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad was activated to investigate Toliver's homicide. Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. Steve Evans at 618-346-3701.

A short time earlier on Monday, a suspect shot an employee at Star Beauty Supply, 3305 State St. No information was immediately available on the employee's condition.
