St. Clair County auctions off hundreds of properties, mobile homes

News-DemocratJuly 2, 2013

St. Clair County officials soon will auction hundreds of properties and mobile homes whose owners are delinquent on real estate taxes.

Bidding will start at $750 per property or mobile home. About 523 properties and 87 mobile homes will be auctioned at 7 p.m. July 24 and July 25 at the St. Clair County Courthouse, 10 Public Square in Belleville.

Written bids must received by 5 p.m. July 17 at the St. Clair County Tax Agent's Office, P.O. Box 96, Edwardsville, Illinois 62025. The highest written bid received will be announced before the auctioneer opens oral bidding.

The previous property owners were delinquent on tax bills due in 2009 and 2010. Sale catalogs are available at the St. Clair County Clerk's Office or online at www.iltaxsale.com.

St. Clair County officials hope the new owners of the property will maintain the property and keep up with taxes due, according to a county press release. By eliminating abandoned properties, county officials believe the appearance of neighborhoods will improve and boost the value of nearby property.
