News-DemocratJuly 3, 2013

— Southern Illinois University Edwardsville golf coach Derrick Brown has announced the addition of William Leaf to play golf for the Cougars.

Leaf was a three-time All State honoree, and a four-time Conference Player of the Year while at Winona (Minn.) Senior High School. He is coming off a second-place finish at the Minnesota Class 3A High School Tournament. Leaf finished five-under par to capture the Section Championship, and ranked first in the state with a scoring average of 71.3.

"We are thrilled to add William to our 2013 class," Brown said. "He had a strong senior season and I look forward to coaching him for the next four years."

Leaf also fared well in summer tournaments. He fired rounds of 72-68-77 to finish 19th at the Minnesota Open in 2012. In 2011 he was Winona City and Club Champion. He earned a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Minnesota Jr. PGA Championship.

Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 to be recognized by the WGCA as All-American Scholars.

Marcum is undeclared in her major; Stair is a Kinesiology and Health Education major, while Rumple received a degree in Kinesiology and Health Education during spring commencement.
