Former Cardinals RHP PJ Walters Designated for Assignment

Former Cardinals minor league pitcher of the year PJ Walters has been designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins.

Walters, who left St. Louis as part of the Cardinals' 2011 trade of Colby Rasmus that put the parts and pieces together to bring home the World Series that fall, made his last appearance with Minnesota Wednesday.

He gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks in five innings of work.

In eight starts this season Walters had a 2-5 record with a 5.95 ERA. He struck out 22 and walked 18 in 39 1/3 innings. He gave up 51 hits with more than 1.7 hits allowed per inning of work. He is 6-10 for his career with a 6.28 ERA in 152 innings.
