East St. Louis man killed when group of people opens fire on him

A 34-year-old man was killed in a shooting Thursday morning in East St. Louis.

Police said the victim, Derrick Wren of East St. Louis, was sitting with friends in the 1700 block of Boismenue Avenue about 10 a.m. when a group of people approached and opened fire with handguns.

Wren suffered a gunshot to the head and died at a local hospital, according to police.

Police said one person was being questioned Thursday in connection with the shooting.
