I read that U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis has sponsored a bill to name the new Interstate 70 bridge the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.
He's billing it as compromise legislation, combining the two previous proposals.
It's true that Stan the Man was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was drafted and served 15 months of non-combat duty while he was able to continue to play baseball almost every day. Not the kind of veteran that you name a bridge after. That would be like naming a basketball arena after Barack Obama because he plays hoops on his private court at the White House.
Naming the bridge the "Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge." would do a disservice to both Stan and veterans. What kind of compromise is that?
