Three hospitalized after motorcycle crash near Smithton

Three Smithton residents remain hospitalized Friday night after the two motorcycles they were riding crashed near their hometown.

Lance Lang, 36, is in critical condition at St. Louis University Hospital after the motorcycle he was driving Thursday night clipped another driven by 49-year-old Ryan Webb and passenger 47-year-old Traci Webb. Traci Webb is listed in serious condition and Ryan Webb is in fair condition.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Craig Campbell said Lang was attempting to pass the Webbs as he was traveling southbound on Illinois 159 when it side-swiped the other motorcycles. The collision caused Lang's motorcycle to leave the roadway, landed and came to a stop on the grass shoulder to the right of the roadway. The Webbs' motorcycle also went off the road, traveling left as both were ejected from the motorbike.

A witness told police that he was traveling 63 mph when he saw the motorcycles pass him on the roadway "like he was standing still."
