Parents and children are invited to exchange violent toys for nonviolent ones during an event Saturday, July 13.
The Toy Gun Exchange Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center, 101 JJ-K Circle, in East St. Louis. The event will include food, music and fun activities for children.
Toy gun exchange events also will be held during the same time at two St. Louis-area locations: O'Fallon Park Recreation Complex, 4343 W. Florissant, and North County Recreation Complex, 2577 Redman.
The goal of the event is to spark meaningful conversations about the culture of violence and change the way kids engage in dramatic play by replacing violent toys and video games with nonviolent ones. The initiative aims to bring awareness to the implications and impact of violent toys, games and movies on today's youths.
Volunteers and donations are needed.
