Students visiting Belleville from Belarus

News-DemocratJuly 8, 2013

For the next two weeks, students from the European country of Belarus are visiting Belleville as part of a Youth Leadership Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

The focus of the grant-funded program is urban gardening and sustainable agriculture. Five Belleville West High School students are working with the students from Belarus, who are staying with host families in the local area.

The program kicked off last week in Chicago where the Belleville West students met with students from two other American high schools as well as 40 Belarussians.

During the next two weeks, the students -- American and Belarussian -- will have public leadership training and visit urban gardens in Belleville and St. Louis.
