News-DemocratJuly 10, 2013

The man accused of stabbing to death a 17-year-old girl in Columbia has pleaded not guilty, according to the Monroe County State's Attorney's Office.

Jordan Kuykendall, 20, of Columbia has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Erin Schneider. Schneider's body was found June 27 at Kuykendall's home in Columbia.

On the day of Schneider's death, a court hearing was scheduled to make permanent an order of protection keeping Kuykendall away from Schneider.

Clay St. Clair, an attorney with Crowder and Scoggins law firm based in Columbia, Ill., is representing Kuykendall. St. Clair could not be reached for comment.

Schneider would have been a senior at Columbia High School this fall. Kuykendall remains in custody at Monroe County Jail.
